Noticed this visually enticing all-over mural, under-lit temple tops decorating all 4s of this brand spanking new Thai hot spot. A slice of up market Bangkok in Hong Kong? Rejoice!
With a modern interior and a punchy name like Ayuthaiya, Aqua Group's newest restaurant slash bar will be bringing in the Happy Hour suits looking for something Asian, but not Rat Alley.
The after-work crowd coming in for an opening night beverage, location is key! (Hollywood Road, what beats that?)
A circular bar with individual booths facing outwards, great positioning for a bit of people snooping (Bar still pending liquor license when eyespy stopped by, cash only for drinks)
The food here was surprisingly thoughtful and well executed. With a great selection of Thai favourites at a reasonable HK$110 and under, even a generic plate of Pad Thai was to die for! The lamb shank had the tenderest of meats and the chicken curry was the ultimate comfort food.
Chicken satays had a mix of crushed lemon-grass that made it punchy and addictive. I was surprised by the efforts of the condiments, pickled carrots and radish of perfection. The softshell crab summer rolls had a great summery bite of mango and avo! Meal was approx HK$150 per person, affordable, good looking, and great food! A must for a weekday meal that doesn't rob you!
