Do not deny your occasional dose of seen and be seen, HKer. I blame the more-is-more air of unnecessary excess, it leeches, it sucks sanity, it mutates you, it becomes you. Fight back! Don't let pretention murder your innocence! Most days, I just want to kick-back at a bar with none of the dress-up fuss, sky high prices, upturned nose and alas, running out of small talk.
I think one of those sprouted in the Sheung Wan/Tai Ping Shan St area.
Oscary Wine and Art has a laid back charm. Advertised as casual bar slash art jam studio, Oscary boasts outdoor seating, vintage Mainland gargle mugs, eclectic old Hong Kong snaps and cheap beer! (Hurrah, Beerlao).

Sunken couches and dots of PRC kitsch, bird cage lantern and a bit of jazz soothes the soul.

Exceptionally friendly bar owners serving up sangria in little plastic flukes. From what I gather, entrepreneur duo is a pair of bffs - newspaper editor + creative trying out f&b, serving up cocktails to close friends and nearby neighbours in a home-y, living room kind of way.

A little more alternative? Try out their art-jam package- HK$300 for 3 hours of art jamming and free finger food. An absolute steal and a great way to splatter paint on the sidewalk!
