Princes Building's Alfred Dunhill goes lifestyle and will drown you in all things British, the store boasts fine Dunhill threads, wine cellar Berry Bros Wine Reserve and a dedicated restaurant/pub called Alfies by KEE. See launch parties snaps here
More for the +40 set reminiscing stuffy English hotel bars, Alfies has yet to prove worthy with fierce competition around town.
I spot shrooms. Random.
They do stock an unusual favourite of mine - Hendrick's Gin. Ask for a few slices of cucumber to bring out the taste. Opening party this Thursday, stay tuned...

One peculiar observation at Alfies is its photo collection dotting the bar area. Its amazing how Tseng's career began in 1979 with gate-crashing, and subsequently meeting the rich and the famous (Keith Haring was his unofficial bf), posing as a Chinese communist official in his now signature Mao-suit. His decade long project East Meets West mocks the ignorance and misunderstanding of our race.
Pawn is doing a Sunday Rooftop All-You-Can-Eat Barbeque in April - Wagyu Rump, Pork and Lamb Chops, Bangers, Chicken and Mackeral for HK$388! 11:30am to 4:30pm, free flow house pours, wine and fruit juices included. Count me in! Click Click Click
Do not deny your occasional dose of seen and be seen, HKer. I blame the more-is-more air of unnecessary excess, it leeches, it sucks sanity, it mutates you, it becomes you. Fight back! Don't let pretention murder your innocence! Most days, I just want to kick-back at a bar with none of the dress-up fuss, sky high prices, upturned nose and alas, running out of small talk.
I think one of those sprouted in the Sheung Wan/Tai Ping Shan St area. Oscary Wine and Art has a laid back charm. Advertised as casual bar slash art jam studio, Oscary boasts outdoor seating, vintage Mainland gargle mugs, eclectic old Hong Kong snaps and cheap beer! (Hurrah, Beerlao).
Sunken couches and dots of PRC kitsch, bird cage lantern and a bit of jazz soothes the soul.
Exceptionally friendly bar owners serving up sangria in little plastic flukes. From what I gather, entrepreneur duo is a pair of bffs - newspaper editor + creative trying out f&b, serving up cocktails to close friends and nearby neighbours in a home-y, living room kind of way.
A little more alternative? Try out their art-jam package- HK$300 for 3 hours of art jamming and free finger food. An absolute steal and a great way to splatter paint on the sidewalk!

This happy yellow sweater dude seems to know what he's doing. I want to rob his flat, yes, every single itty piece of thoughtful accumulation. Can we have more vintage shops, flea markets and affordable galleries in HK so that people can have MORE TASTE?
Stumbled upon a cheeky fashion shoot inspired by a 1908 classic fitness manual - Exercise for Gentlemen- 50 Exercises to Do With Your Suit On via NYT. Promoting physical culture "designed as a fitness program not even requiring a pair of exercise shorts, let alone joining a health club!", this shoot puts a humourous spin to the otherwise, serious tailoring. Oh to see my bosses twist and bend in their office chairs in absurd instructions and laughable positions. Absolutely hilarious!
